Poem #12: First Dates

There’s nothing more nerve wrecking than that first meet

The heart palpitations and thoughts of “damn I just want him to like me”

Or just hoping and praying that he’s not crazy.

The checking of the clothes and the hair

Making sure everything’s in order

I don’t want him thinking I look crazy having him ready to run across the border.

It’s that first hello that can make me or break me

That first smile that can either have him scared or drive him wild

That first hug that can make him want to pull away or make a child.

Meeting someone new I never know what to expect

It can be as bitter as a lime or as nice as a treat

But at the end of the date I can just pray our meeting doesn’t become bittersweet.
