Mother’s Day Q&A: Meet My Mom!

It’s officially Mother’s day weekend! I am so excited because, not only am I seeing my mom, but I have little surprises for her and my grandmother that I’m excited for them to see. With Mother’s Day being this Sunday, I had the idea to interview a mother about their motherhood experience. Then I thought, what better person to interview than my own mom!? I love her so much and would love for you guys, and myself, to get a little glimpse of what motherhood has meant and is like for her. I hope you guys enjoy learning a little bit about her as a mother and even get a takeaway from it as well.

So, without further ado, let’s get into the q&A!

1. What does being a mother mean to you?

When I became a mother it no longer was about me, but about the beautiful soul that I brought into the world.

2. How old were you when you were pregnant and what were your initial feelings?

I was 18-years-old when I was pregnant and I was scared to death!! I grew up in a very strict religious background where my dad was an elder and my mom was a deaconess. Having a baby out of wedlock was pretty much shamed (in my opinion), and the fact that I was a teen (just about to graduate), made it even worse.

3. Can you recall the best mother’s day gift you’ve been given? If so, what?

I think it’s safe to say that the best gift is the one that I am getting this weekend. My daughter has already paid a weekend suite for me to come down and has also planned an entire weekend for me! Best of all, I get to spend it with her! Some days when she was growing up, I often couldn’t spend that day with her because I was a 911 dispatcher and we didn’t get many holidays or weekends off. Although every Mother’s day is amazing, with all that the pandemic has brought, I am truly looking forward to this Mother’s day.

4. If you could give advice to any new or soon-to-be moms, what would it be?

Remember that your child is looking to you to love and protect him/her. Be the best version of you that you can possibly be, and protect your child at all costs!

5. If you could, would you do motherhood all over again? Is there anything you’d do differently?

I absolutely would without a doubt! If I could honestly change anything, it would be to change the person that I had her with.
