In honor of national best friends day, I am going to discuss the subject of friends(yes it is a made-up day but it’s a fun one). Some may say “who needs friends?” or “I keep my circle small with a capacity of one.” While others may be on the opposite side of the spectrum and have a whole field of friends. Whichever side you’re on, the question remains…can we depend on them?

I have a pretty solid group of friends that I’ve known starting from about kindergarten, maybe even younger. I slowly met what became my soul sisters in the church. We pretty much grew up together and in my mind and heart, I’d like to believe that I can depend on them. Now, I don’t put much faith in many people, and I can admit I even have had a few doubts that they’ll always come through every single time. The thing is, everyone is human and things happen. It’s whether they’re there for you when you need them the most is when your judgment truly should come to play.
My friends and I have always had our ups and downs and yea, I’ve felt let down by them a few times before, but in the end, it’s never been anything so serious that I’ve had to think to myself and say “damn, I might need to cut them out of my life.” These girls are like my sisters and just being apart from them as long as I’ve had to be due to adult life has been hard and I’ll always love them no matter where the road may take us.
Now, if you do have friends that always let you down, seem to not want the best for you, or are going down a road that just doesn’t seem right, then you may have to make that decision. As hard as it is, sometimes you have to deviate from the ones you care about the most because they may not have your best interest in the end.
I’m glad that I was lucky enough to find friends that have my best interest at heart and care about me. May we remain solid until the end of time. If you guys are reading this, know that I love you and I’m glad you exist in my life.
Happy National Best Friends Day!
