Blogmas Day 9: Ways To Prep For A Successful Blogmas

I’ve been blogging for seven years, and as someone who is a seasoned blogmas participant, I’ve had many successful seasons. I’ve also made many mistakes and failures (this year definitely falling into the category).

Blogmas can either make or break you in the end, and for someone new to it, it can be a lot. What makes it a lot is the amount of content you’re pushing out. You’re writing a blog post every single day for twenty-five days (if you’re going the traditional route). That’s a lot of content! Not setting yourself up for success will ultimately set you up for failure. Either that means rushing and putting out mediocre content, playing catch-up, or not finishing blogmas at all.

Every blogger has their own way for accomplishing a successful blogmas, but these are my ways that will ensure blogmas goes successfully, and even allow content that will drive more readers to your blog!

1. Start prepping early

If you’re going the traditional route, blogmas can be a lot to handle. You’re posting a blog post every single day for twenty-five days. Posting more than once a week on the regular is a lot in its own, so putting out twenty-five blog posts with no breaks will certainly wear you out! Prepping early is ideal and will give you plenty of time to make sure you’re not playing catch-up (like me this year) or rushing to get a post out so as not to miss a day. With early prep, you’re also giving yourself the time to create the most thoughtful posts and not just something put together in a hurry. Not only will your readers appreciate it, but it can also help you create front-page, Google-type content. I suggest starting around summer at the latest, and even right after the previous blogmas at the earliest!

2. Look up/think of ideas and make a list

Everything great starts with a simple list of ideas! Something I like to do is write down a list of around thirty topics for blogmas post ideas. Writing down extra topics is great to do because you can always change your mind when it’s time to go back to that list and get started with the writing process. Maybe you no longer like one or two topics…now you have extra to choose from! A tip for if you’re struggling to think of that many topics is to do a Pinterest or Google search for blogmas post topic ideas. You can worry about making the post your own later; right now, we just need the topic idea.

3. Create an outline

Once you’ve made a list that you’re satisfied with, it’s time to sit down and do one of the most crucial steps. Creating an outline helps you put all of your thoughts down in a structured format before fully writing them out. It helps make the writing process much quicker. You can write your introduction, body, conclusion, bullet points, and ensure you’re writing posts that are SEO-friendly. I also suggest that you include any pictures you plan on putting in your post within your outlines as well.

4. Don’t forget your promotional content

Promoting your content plays a small but huge part in having a successful blogmas. Writing the content is the first half of it, but you’re not doing all of that writing for nothing just to have no one read your content. You have to let people know that you’re not only doing blogmas to begin with, but also when a blog post is out and available to read. I also advise you to create a specific time when your posts are going out each day (this can also be your usual time if you already have a specific scheduled time). Creating blog posts AND the promotional content can be a lot, so I would suggest creating the promotional content once one blog post is done. That way, you won’t have to worry about it later on.

5. Batch create

If you’ve never heard of batch creating, it’s where you sit down and create a bunch of content in one sitting. Batch creating takes a lot of patience, but because you created outlines for your blog posts, this will make the process much easier and quicker. You don’t have to write all twenty-five blog posts in one sitting (because you started early), so don’t try to and drive yourself crazy. Decide how many posts you can handle in one sitting and make that your goal. Again, remember you started early to make the process easier.

6. Scheduling is your friend

This is the final step to ensuring you have a successful blogmas and you’re working smarter and not harder! Take the time to schedule all of your posts and promotional content. You can choose to do this right away or wait until it’s closer to blogmas. If you’re using WordPress, you should have the ability to automatically schedule your blog posts, which means all you have to worry about is your promotional content. Now, all you have to do is watch everything roll out as you sit back and relax. I repeat…work smarter, not harder.

Blogmas can be a lot to handle, but following these tips can ensure a successful and much less stressful experience!
