Blogmas Day 5: Self-Care Tips To Get You Through The Holidays

The holiday season means fun, music, laughter, and a lot of love. Unfortunately, it can also mean stress, anxiety, tiredness, and even feelings of loneliness. No matter what you’re going through, everyone could use a little extra self-care to help get through the holidays.

I’ve provided a few tips below to help you get through the holidays and hopefully enjoy them more!

Prioritize skin care.

The holidays may get crazy, but the number one thing you should prioritize is your skin care. It’s essential to take time for yourself, especially during a season when you’re typically thinking of others. The weather is also pretty harsh around this time, so doing your skincare daily and staying moisturized are musts to get through the holiday season.

Don’t overspend.

Though presents aren’t what the holidays are about, we have to admit that it’s the first thing that comes to mind when the holidays begin to creep up. In fact, some start as early as summer when it comes to saving or purchasing their Christmas gifts. When it comes to the holidays, it’s crucial to take care of yourself (and your wallet) by doing only what you can and avoiding overspending. Don’t stress yourself out trying to get someone the biggest or most gifts. Only give what you can, and remember the real gift is about being together with the ones you love.

Say no when needed.

As fun as it is to say yes to all the holiday festivities, it’s okay to say no too. This tip also fits for the rest of the year. Only say yes if you really want. Even the biggest holiday lover knows how draining it can get around this time of year. This especially applies if you work a job that gets busy around this time of year or if this time of year brings unpleasant memories. So, remember to say no and take care of you.

Put up (or take down) that tree when YOU want.

One of the things people often seem to judge others for is when they decide to put up or take down their Christmas tree. We’re well into December now, but if you put up your tree on November 1st or even in October, that’s perfectly fine! If you’re someone who doesn’t take their tree down until the end of February (or even keeps it up all year), that’s perfectly fine too! Taking care of yourself during the holidays means doing what you want and what makes you happy. Never let the thoughts and opinions of others tell you what to do with a tree that they didn’t pay for, nor is it going in a home that they don’t live in.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too old.

The holidays is all about bringing back that inner child! In the beginning, doing your skincare was mentioned. When you’re doing your skincare, you’re taking care of yourself externally. However, when you take care of that inner child, you’re taking care of yourself internally. You’re never too old to heal the child inside. You can take pictures with Santa, purchase that toy you’ve always wanted but never received as a child, or watch Christmas movies all day. Whatever taking care of your inner child looks like, you should do it and do it freely!

Gift yourself ALWAYS.

We discussed not overspending when you’re gifting others, but what about gifting yourself? The holidays are always about others and what you’re going to do for them, but you should always do something for yourself, too. It’s perfectly fine if you grab a little something for yourself while you’re out shopping for others…you deserve it!

Care for others during the holidays, but don’t forget to care for yourself. We’re all going through something, and unfortunately, it doesn’t end just because the holidays are here. As a matter of fact, more stress is added to it. However, these tips are here to help ensure you take care of yourself so you can get through the holidays and enjoy them in the process!
