I know during Christmas time, a lot of people get caught up in Santa clause and gifts, but Christmas is about much more than that. Christmas is about Jesus and celebrating his birth. I know I may not be the best Christian when it comes to certain things and even I get lost into the Christmas music and gift buying, but I do try and remember the true meaning of CHRISTmas.
I think people tend to take the CHRIST out of Christmas. Some people even do it literally and use the term Xmas. I enjoy all the holiday cheer, but let’s not forget the story of Jesus’s birth. I’m not well rehearsed on the story and I’m surely not a bible storyteller, but I can give a quick recap.
Mary was pregnant with Jesus and her and Joseph were finding a place to stay. They went to an inn in Bethlehem, but the inn was full so they were given permission to stay in this little cave area (not sure what it was exactly). Fast forward, Mary gave birth to Jesus and he was laid in a manger and three wisemen came bringing gifts. That’s the gist of the story. I highly recommend reading the entire story either in the bible or just google…whichever you prefer. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful story of the birth of Jesus. I think the story helps put in perspective the true meaning of Christmas.
Also, for those of you who don’t know, we don’t really know the true date of his birth. Christmas was just kind of designated as that day, but that’s why it’s also important to celebrate his birth and the things he’s done for us any and every day of the year.
I hope you all have a happy holiday and that you continue to remember the true reason for the season!
