First, I’d like to begin by stating that I am not a professional in skin care. However, I am trying my best to work on my skincare routine, and with cold weather quite literally slapping everyone in the face, I’m ensuring I keep my skin hydrated.

Not everyone wants an eleven-step routine to do every day (me being one of them). It can take just four simple steps to keep your skin hydrated during the frigid cold without breaking the bank. The items below are ones I personally use and live by, so if you’re looking for suggestions, keep reading!

Step 1: Moisturizing cleanser

When it comes to cleaning your face, it’s good to find something that cleans your skin without adding dryness to it. I personally love using the Cerave brand. Though some may find it too dry for their skin during the winter, I love using their foaming facial cleanser all year round. For those who need to or prefer to switch it up for the winter, they have a hydrating facial cleanser that is perfect for dry skin. Both of them contain hyaluronic acid for moisturization, but it ultimately depends on your preference.

Step 2: Serum

A moisturizing serum is good to help get the hydration deep in your skin, and add any back that you may feel was lost during the cleansing process. Just as with cleansers, there are tons of serums out there for you to choose from. Some are on the lower end, and some are very high-end. I, personally, don’t believe in having to break the bank for a good, hydrating serum. The Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid serum is one that I swear by! Again, it contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, and at only $6, you’re not breaking the bank for good hydration!

Step 3: Moisturizer

Moisturizer protects your skin’s barrier from the cold and helps seal in everything you’ve added to your face thus far. Going back to Cerave, their moisturizing cream is so thick and nourishing for your skin! This is one of my favorite moisturizers to use, and the one that I use the most. It is a bit pricey, but you get a good-sized jar, and your skin will love you for using it.

Step 4: SPF

You may think that an SPF isn’t needed because it’s winter, but that’s not true. You should use an SPF daily, no matter the weather, even if you’re sitting inside all day. Rays can still come through, and you must protect that skin! When it comes to those with melanin, especially with dark skin such as mine, it’s hard to find a good sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast. The Black Girl Moisturizing Sunscreen is not only good to keep your skin moisturized during the winter, but it also keeps you from getting that cast.

Again, I am not a professional, but just someone who’s trying to do better with her skin care and sharing her personal favorites. All of these items are very moisturizing for your skin, and with them, the winter weather will not stand a chance!
