The holidays are such a beautiful and jolly time of the season. They’re filled with beautiful lights, music, and togetherness. Unfortunately, it’s also a very hectic time for many. Beyond the Christmas music and flashing lights is a crowd of people rushing to grab everything they need for Christmas day. It’s people working longer hours with no lives because companies only care about making that holiday money.
It’s also the stress of parents taking on extra shifts to ensure they have enough money for their kids’ Christmas gifts. With all this stress, take care of yourself this holiday season. Check out these self-care tips below to help ensure you’re taking care of yourself while taking care of everyone else!

Make time for self-care.
Through all the holiday craziness, it’s important to make time for self-care. This may sound easier said than done for some, but it’s important because you need to take care of yourself. Even if you have to pencil it into your busy holiday schedule, as long as you check it off is all that matters. You can’t continue to take care and provide for others if you’re not making time to take care of yourself.
Set boundaries for family.
During the holidays, family is all around and they can get a little out of hand. People forget (or ignore) that boundaries have existed and they still do during the holidays. With that said, we sometimes forget ourselves or choose to let things slide for the sake of the holiday season. It’s important to set and keep boundaries for family to preserve your sanity and mental health. This goes for your time, gifts, and even the Christmas dinner table.
Get enough sleep.
This is an important tip whether it’s the holiday season or not. It’s hard for many of us to get enough sleep outside of the holiday season, so adding the stress of the holidays makes it even worse. The day may seem chaotic, whether at work or otherwise, but once the night falls it’s time to shut it all down. I know it’s tempting to stay up late and watch all the Hallmark Christmas movies, you need enough sleep to survive the holidays. It’s also getting much colder and getting enough sleep will help keep you healthy from getting sick.
Set boundaries at work.
Family aren’t the only ones who need boundaries set for them. You need to have boundaries for your work life just as much as for your family. It may seem a little harder to set boundaries at work, but it can be done. Many establishments are working overtime during the holidays and dealing with more customers than ever before. That becomes tiring, especially if you have a family to come home to afterward. Such a high demand causes businesses to make their employees work much more with very few off days. You can set boundaries by not coming in on your off day, taking a mental health day, and saying no when asked to do more than what you’re being paid for. It can become a little scary for some to say no, but standing your ground and putting yourself first is important.
Gift yourself too.
Tis the season for giving! So, why not gift yourself too?! You spend so much of your time (and money) this season to gift everyone in your family. Some are even picking up extra shifts to make sure they can afford to do so. Take a break from gifting others and gift yourself for once!
Self-care may be important to prioritize all throughout the year, but even more so during the stressful holiday season. Follow these tips to help prioritize self-care during the holidays!
