An Update On My Bible Reading Journey

It’s been two months since the My Journey with Religion post that I made in May. Overall, I updated you guys on where I was with my religion in the past, where I am currently, and where I want to be. I mentioned that I bought a bible and was doing daily bible studies…or at least trying. Although two months isn’t a lot of time at all, I think it’s at least a decent amount to just kind of discuss how it’s going so far and maybe even discuss a few notes that I have about the different books in the bible that I read.

Daily studying actually being DAILY.

So, I’m the worst at doing things consistently, and I mentioned in that post how I even went like a month without studying. Well, so far I’m doing a lot better. I’ve only missed like a day or two at a time when I did skip a day, but I’ve always made sure to play catch up. I’m pretty proud of myself and hope to keep this up as I go. I, personally, like to do my studies in the morning. I like to wake up, eat breakfast, and then head to my area where I sit and do them. It just feels good to have that done for the day. I also believe that doing this daily is helping me with my prayer too. I don’t pray as I should, but I always make sure to pray before I read and after.

My thoughts on the different books I’ve read.

So far, I’ve read John, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and right now I’m currently in Numbers. When I first started, I had no clue where to start! I Googled and saw that John was a good book to start with, so I did. When I finished, it was like…what now? The internet didn’t necessarily help. I did discover that my bible has a “read the bible in a year” section, but I didn’t like how it was set up for me personally. I then decided to just go back from the beginning and work my way back.

It’s been a minute now since I read John, but it wasn’t boring I can say. I didn’t have an issue with wanting to skim, because I will skim something with haste and that’s bad, so that says a lot. Genesis, of course has the stories that you grew up learning about as a child, including creation. As I was reading Genesis, I just had memories of these Christian TV shows I’d watch as a child when I’d come home from church that told those stories. Genesis isn’t just about creation though, it has some spicy stories in there that had me shook!

Exodus and Leviticus are where it gets a little boring. There is a lot of instruction going on and I will admit that I did do a bit of skimming. I found myself kind of just going through a lot of the chapters. There was also a lot of repetition as well, so I flew by those chapters. I’m still reading numbers, so I won’t say anything about that yet. I will just say though, those Israelites just never learn (if you know, you know).

My goal for my journey.

Overall, my end goal for this journey is, of course to get closer to God, but to also be able to continue to read without skipping a day at all. If I’m not able to read in the morning, then I will read at night, but I just don’t want to miss a day. The reading plan doesn’t have certain days written down for the readings, but there are five days planned out for each week, so I take that as Monday-Friday. Since I don’t have anything planned for the weekend, I’m thinking about doing bible studies on the Bible app that I have on my phone. This way I won’t be missing a single day.

Are you someone who likes to do bible studies? How do you get your daily dose…through reading, listening, or a different way? Let me know!
