6 Black Inventors You Need To Know: Part2

It’s time for part 2 of learning about black inventors and this time it’s dedicated to the men! If you didn’t see part one of 6 Black Inventors You Need To Know then I highly suggest you go check it out!

Now let’s look at some more amazing black inventors!

g-w-carver 1. George Washington Carver

This man is no stranger to history. In fact, I’m sure he was one of the people always used in school when you have to do those black history projects. He is known as the peanut man because he created over 300 uses for the peanut. Some of them include cosmetics, paints, dyes, milk, etc. I would have never known one little peanut could be used for so many things!

garrett-a-morgan-9414691-1-402 2. Garrett Morgan

Stop, slow down, go! What do these 3 have in common? Well, usually you see these words in the form of colors on a traffic light which, btw, you can thank this man for. Can you imagine if we didn’t have traffic signals to help guide us? The roads would be a WHOLE lot worse than they are with them!

Frederick-McKinley-Jones 3. Frederick Jones

Can you believe that fridges didn’t use to exist!? Can you imagine not having somewhere to put your meat or yogurt or eggs!? All that food going bad once the ice melts in whatever container you had to use to store them in?? Well, that’s how it was until Mr. Jones invented the refrigerator! Now, life is so much better and we don’t have to worry about meat spoiling…just make sure you remember to take it out of the freezer to thaw!

alfred cealle 4. Alfred Cralle

I scream! You scream! We all scream for ice cream!

No, Alfred Cralle is not the inventor of ice cream, However, he did invent the ice cream scoop! Again, something so little that makes like a whole lot easier. Without the ice cream scoop, it would probably be a little harder to get that perfect amount and round scoop of ice cream. Thanks Mr. Cralle!

philip emeagwali 5. Philip Downing

Can you guess what this man invented? I’ll give you a hint…you use it to put letters in. Did you guess? It’s the mailbox! That’s right..the blue thing you probably hurry and rush to USPS to put your last minute mail in (I know at least some of us have been there). I have no clue how someone comes up with this idea, I know I never could, but thank God for such brilliant black people of the past!

august 6. Augustus Jackson

Another inventor with an invention for ice cream? Yes please! Augustus actually invented a new way to make ice cream. It’s the method that we use today by mixing salt, flavoring, and cream. He even invented some popular flavors that we eat today…vanilla being one of them! I don’t know about you, but this just might be one of the most delicious inventions!

I hope you all learned something today and enjoyed showing these amazing black inventors some love on this Valentine’s day!

  1. Ooh another fun AND interesting post! Again, I love learning all of these fascinating facts! I can’t imagine coming up with even just ONE single great idea that would effect mankind if I invented it, and yet some of these smart men came up with several!! Thank you for reminding us of these great men of color who have changed all of our lives! I mean, where would we be without fridges?? I mean, I live in the desert so we could never be able to eat anything cold without Frederick Jones!

    Brilliant post!!! xoxo
