How To Help Lower Chances Of Getting Breast Cancer (BCA)

Coming at you guys with another Breast Cancer Awareness post! Last week I gave some good information on different types of breast cancer. This week I’m going to give you a few tips on how you can help lower your chances of getting breast cancer. Remember, I’m not a professional and information I’m providing is information I’ve looked up.

Tip #1: Eat Healthy And Workout

The foods you eat can be a factor on your risk of getting cancer. Diet is partly responsible for 30-40% of all cancers. Eating certain foods can help lower your risk of getting breast cancer. Women who are overweight are at a higher risk of breast cancer due to the extra fat cells that make estrogen. This can cause extra breast cell growth, which increases the chance of cancer. It is suggested that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, limit your fat intake, mix up your protein options, and add healthy choices to your diet. As for working out, studies show that moderate to vigorous physical activity can be linked to lower risks of breast cancer. As much as we may hate it, in order to lower our risk of breast cancer, it’s important for us to eat healthy and workout.

Tip #2: Refrain From Smoking

Smoking can not only increase your chances of breast cancer, but also increase complications from breast cancer treatment. It’s suggested to stay away from smoking if you don’t smoke, and if you do then take the steps to stop. Some of the steps you can take include: joining a quit smoking program, medicine, or just a friend to help you.

Tip #3: Limit Your Alcohol Intake

This might be a hard one for some of us(including me), but research shows that alcohol increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer. It can increase the risk by increasing levels of estrogen and other hormones, as well as by damaging DNA cells. Women who have three alcoholic drinks per week raise their risk of breast cancer by 15% compared to women who don’t drink. Even though it’s ideal to cut alcohol completely, if you choose to continue to drink then it’s best to have only one or two drinks per week.

Stay healthy ladies and men too! Remember, no gender is exempt from breast cancer!
